I read this in nearly one sitting - short book but also the sparse prose and poetic tone and theme captured me. I found it really made my gut twist as the premise feels more and more possible, and the vagueness seemed very appropriate for clearly traumatic unexplainable events
How, with so few descriptions and without even giving us the names of the characters, Megan Hunter captured me so intensely I'm not sure I will ever understand. She truly makes every word count.

I read this in one sitting. It's terrifying, uplifting , and looking at the world we live in, feels like this could happen sooner rather than later.

This slim novel explores the fallout from a major environmental disaster, sending at least Europe into chaos. A poet, Hunter relates the tale in sparse prose, giving the reader only a glimpse into the character's lives. I enjoyed this storytelling (although could have done without all the asterisks between the short entries. I little pet peeve of mine I find distracting), but think it should have ended a chapter or two earlier. Hunter set up a cataclysmic and life-changing event, but wraps things up in too neatly of a bow so the end (though ultimately hopeful) feels unrealistic.
