i am so devastatingly emotionally attached to will graham it’s not a fucking joke actually it’s so serious
I've always been a fan of Lecter and with the Hannibal series I've grown to appreciate and love Will Graham. This book wasn't really about them though, yes Lecter is mentioned but we don't get much of him, and yes Graham is there but the book is more about Francis Dolarhyde and his story and his inner struggle with the Becoming. It was very interesting and it was very disturbing and it was very good

I am only now having the pleasure of making an acquaintance of Hannibal Lecter, MD. What a treat.
In many horrors or thrillers, the presence of law enforcement can be a detriment to tension when used as a faceless entity. Such as when the cops are called to identify some monster activity then dip out after finding no evidence. THANKS FOR THE HELP. But when we see the law directly involved with a villain (Prisoners, The Dark Knight), true stakes take form.
Dr. Lecter's presence loomed in the background this entire book - it must have taken great restraint for Thomas Harris to use him this way. Already incarcerated, Lecter was used as an FBI consult to catch the main antagonist. That was the Tooth Fairy/Red Dragon, who had a compelling arc of his own.
As the book pulled back the layers of FBI consultant and protagonist Will Graham, he became one of the most intriguing characters. "How did you catch me?" Lecter would ask him, seeming to already know the answer. It later became clear: Graham has a bit of freak in him as well.
It all came together so well.
