Whereas Masters of Doom, Console Wars and Blood, Sweat and Pixels show the roller coaster ride the video game industry can be, with the intense human drama that comes with it, this books is more "I made some games and then I made some more games!"
That's not bad, it's just a bit more breezy than other books about the field. I didn't walk away feeling like I knew more about Sid Meier or the Civilization games. I did enjoy the first half more, mainly because it seemed like Sid Meier was more interested in talking about the creative process of those earlier games than he was about the games in the latter half of his career.

Sid's philosophy is to find the fun in everything and he certainly made the story fun. The achievements throughout the book were such a fun bonus.

I am a fan of Sid Meier's computer games, but not a huge fan. I mostly enjoyed this book as a tour down memory lane from the earliest computer games, computers and consoles to the modern day. Meier writes well, and he shares a lot of wisdom about life, business and technology, along with practical tips on how to develop good software. One does not need to be a hardcore player of Civilization to enjoy the book, but it likely helps.

A good book, but I think my opinion may be biased. I never played many of Sid’s games early in life, so many of the stories or talking about the games themselves didn’t appeal to me. I did enjoy his philosophy on game design and as an adult, I am discovering many of his games that I ignored in my youth. So my rating of three stars is unique to me… I think it was a good book, but probably one I won’t pick up and read again. Fans of Sid’s games would probably find it to be a four star book or better.
