When I began reading and realized that this book started out weird, I was so pleased! It seemed like a few books from Mr Koontz became somewhat 'normal' as far as storyline, so the return to the weird was much appreciated.
I just hit part II and things are starting to meld together. Can't wait to see how it all wraps up...

The twists and turns of this story were compelling. However, I felt like the end didn't give the full story justice. It was a bit simplistic making it feel out of balance, but it did wrap up loose ends so as not to leave you hanging.
Then I got to the last page informing me of a new Odd book coming...when I was more excited to see that future release, I knew the conclusion of the story I had been reading could have been more gripping. Although I must say I'm very pleased to see that his book didn't feel like it was following a typical mystery 'master outline' (like I felt The Husband did).

I can't review this book because I can't get into it. Stopping at page 116. Just can't waste anymore time on it.

What can be said. This is how not to write a large cast, confined environment book. The bland characters, the constant map referencing, and the awful metaphors will leave you saying "Now who was that again?" all the way to the (interesting) but not-worth-it end.

Long and drawn out... then it tied up a little too easily in the last 20 pages. Disappointing as I usually like his work.

This book is about a historic apartment residence that has some weird paranormal stuff happening. I got bored quite a few times through it but at the end I "got" his vision of the book. I like the theme but he missed the mark in carrying it out.

I was really intrigued with this book - im not a fan of Koontz but thought the concept of this story was something I'd enjoy. And I did...right up until the usual things I don't like about this author started creeping back in. What could have been a simple but effective storyline turned into a saga that felt like an attempt to incorporate every horror theme possible into one book. Fail. It felt too crammed and got unnecessarily complex in the space of a few pages, resulting in it feeling so try-hard that I lost all interest in the book. I gave up about half way through the book.

Koontz does an amazing job speaking in so many different characters' voices; however, I was kind of disappointed with this book. It was a decent story, but my disappointment comes from the type of story it is.
I had assumed it was going to be a sort of haunted house type novel. It turned out to be a story of, for lack of a better description, time travel and a possible future should things continue on their normal timeline.
This simply was just not the type of story I was looking for.
