SYNOPSIS:
Mac loves life in her small town neighborhood where everyone knows everyone until one day her world is turned upside down. Her sister, who was studying abroad in Dublin is horrifically murdered and Mac finds herself in Dublin looking for her sisters killer. What she gets is completely the last thing she expects and a whole new world of fae and magic is revealed to her. The world is going to darkness and it's up to Mac to stop it but in this world where everyone is so good at hiding who they really are, who can she truly trust?

REVIEW:
This book started very slow, VERY slow! It picked its pace up every once in a while but then began to slow down again, A roller coaster of pacing. The characters took a while to grow on me, I didn't like Jericho Barron's for the majority of the book which I believe was kind of Monings intention, but Mac, ahh! I just couldn't stand her, in fact, I still don't like her all that much. She doesn't have any depth or dimension to her she's just this flat stereotypical girly girl that got sucked into a world of monsters. Up until the last page there's hardly much growth in her personality and you would think something so drastic would hangs you, apparently for Mac, not all that much. They literally threw Elle Woods into a book. If Mac weren't such a flat character I would have liked this book so much more because the story itself is amazing. The whole idea of sex crazed fae and objects of power and monsters, it's all very creative and imaginative but I just couldn't get past this character and I had to read through HER perspective the whole time!

RATING::
⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 stars!

Loved it. It was fun and interesting. Great book 1 of a series. It has taken me awhile to finally pick up and read this one because I wasn't sure how much I would like it. Though it has been on many recommendation lists for me. I'm less likely to pick up a book with the Fae, but this one has changed mind.

3,75/5 stars.

My philosophy is pretty simple—any day nobody’s trying to kill me is a good day in my book.
I haven’t had many good days lately.

okay, i gotta admit that i went into this book not expecting much.
actually, no. that's not true.

i went into this book thinking i would hate it and i'll have to write a long review detailing every single flaw i could find and how much i loathed these characters. yet.... i'm mystified. the writing was far more intricate than i expected it to be, with small additions of mac's personality (a sense of humor, some southern remarks, mac), which made this book absolutely bloody fun. (why does the cover have to be this messy though. it's a disgrace and doesn't make you want to pick up the book at all. authors need to stop.)

My name is MacKayla. Mac for short. I’m a sidhe-seer, a fact I accepted only recently and very reluctantly.
There were more of us out there than anyone knew. And it’s a damn good thing, too.
We’re damage control.

now, let's address the big elephant in the room. the falconer. if you know me, you know i've read it first and enjoyed that duology a lot. (third book? i don't know her!) i knew about the allegations of plagiarism; that elizabeth may took some key elements from fever and wrote her own books based on them. now that i've officially read both, i can definitely tell that there is some blood in the water. heavy inspiration was indeed taken. in book one, only, we have some common topics: a dead relative pushing the main character to seek revenge, a mysterious 'partner' slash mentor (insisting on mysterious... if you've read the vanishing throne, you know what i mean and i'm ready to bet there is a similar twist here), seelie queen/unseelie king, mc's journal at the end of the book detailing the species of fae, parents that aren't really there, the world building... even if they both are situated in different historical contexts, the fantasy aspect remains heavily similar. and i gotta give credit to miss moning. she wrote it better. (also now that i've read a few books down, miss may def copied more than the things quoted above)

for reminder, this is book 1 only. yet, we know much more of the faery world than we ever did in the falconer. we know about fae princes, we know about their powers, mac actually interacts with them, so they're not only there to be killed in three paragraphs. there is a long history that involves a lot of different actors that influenced it. there is a multitude of details that i didn't expect to encounter in a series that everyone presented to me as a trashy paranormal romance.

"Mac." He said my name and laughed. "What a name for something like you. Mac."

i'm mostly okay with mac (i know she'll grow stronger, less naive, and i have no problem with her being pink obsessed... it's not like she's actually stupid. just sheltered. y'all who criticized her for it in your reviews (that led me to believe i'll hate her) should know the difference), i have a hate/love relationship with barrons (i'm intrigued), the seelie prince actually does nothing for me....... but it's really the story building that's the biggest quality to these books.

and i can't wait to see where they'll take me.

This is good...intense. Different. Nice twist on the "power weapons" of the elves and I just gotta know who/what Jericho is...

Well-written...a far cry from her Highlander series.
