Not her strongest book, but I enjoyed the pacing and the story. I don’t particularly love ugly duckling stories, and this book leaned heavily on that trope, but it works for something quick and light

A cute, funny love story. Easy to read but took me a bit to get into it

Really funny! Light fiction, but witty and strong ladies in the mix.

I'm finding this Mhairi McFarlane to be a good soothing read for me right now (a kind of British equivalent of a pumpkin spice latte). I like this one a bit better than the last and I appreciate that these books don't shy away from genuine pain in the characters' pasts without feeling like "pain porn" I also like the fact that the leads seem to always 1) genuinely have a good reason to misjudge each other 2) actually apologize and atone for mistakes but mostly 3) they make each other laugh. It occurs to me that shared humor is occasionally implied but rarely demonstrated in the romance genre. I also continue to enjoy the specificity of the friend groups (even if the heroes seem to all be variations of the same bloke).

This book is a Pride and Prejudice retelling. I have to say it took me a long time to get into it and I do feel like there could have been more of Grace’s character but I did enjoy it.
