This story is so imaginative, whimsical, and absolutely beautifully illustrated!! I read this so quickly I was shocked when I got to the end 😅 I don't know what took me so long to pick this up, I love it!! And that bonus chapter?! TOO CUTE!!! I can't wait for volume 2!

Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the advance digital copy!

I was blown away by this first volume. “A Kingdom of Quartz” promises to be a new favorite series. A mix of angelic and dark fantasy, with beautiful visuals and intriguing storytelling. Initially I expected a fairly sweet story about a little girl, Blue, achieving her dreams despite prejudice against her black wings. Much like the main character, I was surprised by the sudden horrors that befell her and the dark powers that were hidden inside her. “A Kingdom of Quartz” vol. 1 was a great start for the story, and leaves you interested to discover more about Blue’s mysterious powers and her magical angelic world. If you are a fan of “Witch Hat Atelier” I think you will find a similar spirit in this book.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this early in exchange for an honest review!

So we know that Blue isn't the typical Celes and I feel bad for her already for how she is being treated. I'm hoping it gets into the main plot point a little more in the second volume, but I will definitely continue reading it as it's a very interesting concept! Just wish it showed a little more depth to really catch my attention faster.

*I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.*

Cover: Sooo good. I scroll quite fast most of the time and this made me stop. It really catched my eyes!

Drawings: I think it's quite lovely drawn. As always it's black-white as it's a manga, but the drawing style is really good. Especially the prince of Quartz. He looks so good!

Review

Nice drawings. Almost every third page has a big drawing and I personally like them a lot. The hair was also drawn really well from each character. The feathers are drawn with so much detail. And there are sometimes small stars around the drawings, I think that's cute.

Get to know the main character Blue quite fast. We get an insight of the life of Blue and how she has a hard time interacting with other's based on her wings. I can relate to her on many ways and I think showing her insecurities is a great way of making a reader connect more with the characters.

Every few pages happens a new event and it makes the reader excited to read more.

End note/Final thoughts:

"Kingdom of Quartz - Book One" introduces the tale of Blue, an orphan with distinctly dark angel wings. While the manga's art style took some getting used to, the narrative proved to be solid, hinting at intriguing developments. Although the manga didn't completely sweep me off my feet, I am looking forward to its continuation and eagerly anticipate delving further into Blue's internal conflicts and the unfolding storyline.

Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me this e-ARC.
