What a weird ride this was. I never read historical fiction so this was a new experience, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was messy and infuriating, especially Monty, but I couldn’t help myself and love it. I want Percy as my friend and marry Felicity. I’m fascinated by the fact that this book made me care for Monty even though he was so annoying. If it wasn’t for the fact that I could read his more or less decent thoughts I probably wouldn’t. How Percy can love him is a mystery and yet I’ve been rooting for them all the way through, even if they’re the biggest idiots alive.

THIS WAS A VERY GOOD BOOK. i love it so much and im so glad theres a sequel about felicity and a novella!!!!! i love these characters so much. at the beginning i was not very into monty but i loved him at the end. ugh it was so fun to read and i just loved it. i always stayed up to the early hours of the morning to keep reading and it was so GOOOD
i feel like i wanted more romance between monty and percy, not like there werent heaps of moments where i was abso-bloody-lutely in love with the both of them, but i wish there was more moments where we saw them truly acting like a couple and enjoying it without the moment being ruined 0.2 seconds after. maybe it was intentional by the author because obviously, being inna queer relationship in the 1700s would not have been easy, but i just felt really sad that their relationship crumbled into pieces because one of them was mad at the other for something they said without fully talking about it because surely people who had been friends for so long would be better at communicating? idk, im really glad they ended up together in the end. im also glad about montys development. at the beginning of the book though, i kept waiting for him to apologize to percy for being racist, and to felicity for calling the woman a w**** at the beginning, because he shouldntve just been let off with nothing. I get that it's based in a time where he probably had no jdea and had so much trouble understanding, but it couldve been a moment where he learned something, not just be forgiven. like when felticity told him off that one time and percy took montys side i was annoyed bc he deserved it.
but overall i really liked this book!! it was also so funny, i normally dont laugh out loud at books or anything but this made me laugh a lot. I highlighted so many quotes that made me laugh and i really wish i couldve had my own physical copy to annotateeeeee so maybe ill buy it :))) anyways yes. LOVED THIS
oh and i also loved the authors note that gave insight on some of the topics dealt with in this book!! i feel like i have more of an understanding on this time period now and i learned something, and it was fun to read. props to this author
