“he stood between me and every thought of religion as an eclipse intervenes between man and the broad sun” bro wtf
Indeed, I find it rather necessary to admit my consumption of one Jane (Janet) Eyre took its toll on me. Never did the story fail to tickle my fancy, nor did the characters ever fall short of delighting me with their sharpness (excepting, as I am wont to do, one St. John, to whom I will wish nothing but the worst!), and yet my passage through the novel was quite ravaged by distraction and torment. Perhaps it is the apocalypse, but never you mind. I did quite fancy this story, and I am humbled to say it is the first Brontë I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.

As with her sisters, Charlotte Bronte is an expert at writing female characters. The thoughts, feelings and motivations of Jane Eyre are so strong and present throughout the novel.
Other female characters like Mrs Reed, Mrs Fairfax and Miss Ingram, are all also beautifully written and well fleshed out, complex characters.
I cant say im very sold on the male characters (Mr Rochester and St John Rivers) however, it wouldnt suprise me if that was Charlotte Bronte’s meaning the entire time.
Loved this book!

2.8/5, to be precise.
So I hate Jane. Wholeheartedly hate. She had her fair share of bad luck over the years, yeah, but it doesn't excuse her behavior.
A lot of readers here say that Mr. Rochester should be considered as a villain because of his lies and manipulations towards Jane. Love is blind (sorry for the literary pun). He loved her, and yes he could've tell her about everything but he was afraid to lose Jane.
After the truth was revealed, he confessed everything to her, he was literally BEGGING Jane to understand him. Oh and she understood him indeed! And yet she still rejected his proposal. She straight just left without any trace leaving the man heartbroken and worried about her well-being.
She was hurting when she left him and always thought about Mr. Rochester for a year! I mean was it worth, after all?
I was fecking bawling my eyes when she came back to him, I hurt for him.
F*ck Jane and yay Edward.
Writing was sort of good but pacing was too slow for my taste.
Romance parts left Twilight-ish aftertaste.

Parts were great parts made me want to pull my hair out. Need to read “Wude Sargasso Sea” and “A Room of One’s Own” now STAT
the true romance in this story is between mr. edward fairfax rochester and this vial of yak tranquilizers i have in my pocket
Hupsa! Tot nooit meer!
