I love Jane and her character. I loved reading about her childhood and her banter with people. The book took quite a lot of my energy to read, as the sentences were long and there were many words I had to look up, not to mention translate the french, but the writing is truly beautiful and a work of art. Around the 75% mark I entered a sort of reading slump and the pace of the writing slowed down exponentially. We met new characters that were described in detail but I had no idea why I should care for them until it was revealed. After that, I finished the rest within a day. This book focuses a lot of Christianity and christian values and explores them through ideas of forbidden romance. Characters who pick God and pray to him get rewarded, sinners get punished until they repent, then God shows mercy. There's also elements of mystery and the supernatural and of course romance.
