I was really excited when I read the description. Unfortunately it wasn't what i expected. I'd describe this book as The OC meets James Bond. Does that sound good?
The first 100 pages were good, but then mistake after mistake. The author assumes that we care about the spy organisation which is so not true. It felt like I was waiting for a climax that never came.

I really, really wanted to like this book. The concept was fun, it looked like an easy read, and the writing didn't bother me as much as it did other people - but then that ending happened. Dear God. The third part of this book is a mess and a half.

Can gay kids falling for straight people stop being a plot point in LGBT media for-fucking-ever?

I set out determined to like this book no matter what. I loved the premise and I saw the reviews that were criticising the not so excellent execution. And so I set out to like it, to keep my expectations low and forgive it its flaws because I'm a sucker for a good premise and it disappoints me when it's wasted on bad execution.

And I did try, I forgave the weak characterization and lapped up the relationship building between Caden and Dylan despite some flaws with that too. But in the end I can't give it more than 3 stars, even though I really want to, and I am invested in the idea of this book doing well.

I appreciated the meta elements along with the rest of readers and I enjoyed how this book challenged stereotypes. But characters were bland. Caden was more or less fleshed out but he was fleshed out into a bland character. I had trouble understanding Dylan, he seemed like a complete romantic - why was he made a Bad? Juliett explored so little of her potential.

The development took up more than 2/3 of the book which left very little time for closing up, and I was disappointed when it turned out that the author decided to resolve all of their problems in that 1/3. That was the most frustrating part and that which disappointed me the most and made it impossible to give it more than 3 stars.

SpoilerHow believable is it that hundred years old spy organisation that trades in people's secrets could be taken down by 5 teenagers with 0 pre-planning. Considering that they operate by killing one of the two competitors you'd think they would be better prepared to track the losers, who would be naturally inclined to run rather than be killed. They just randomly drove around for days and camped out for hours and no one came close to finding them? Even while they had a tracker on them for days?! How does that work? It was unbelievable, it was frustrating, it was just plain unnecessary. Why not just have Caden and Dylan get away and set up in a hidey hole somewhere and hint at fighting the organisation next book? That would have been a much more satisfying ending

I was disappointed, and I am sad that I don't get to read this great premise unfold with better execution.

This isn't normally a book I would have picked up, but it was presented as an option in my Book of the Month box. I'm so glad I made the decision to read this because it didn't disappoint! Caden and Dylan are beautiful, relatable characters and you are rooting for them through the end. While I did feel like the end was a bit rushed, I've been trying to figure out how I would have written it differently and haven't been able to find a better solution. It did leave me slightly dissatisfied, but not enough to not recommend this book to others. From the beginning to the last few chapters, the book has you hooked and I lost a bit of sleep getting through this one!

I enjoyed this book enough, it’s a great idea I just think it could’ve been executed better.

I can't decide what rating to give this, more like a 3.5 stars. This really wasn't what I was expecting from this book. While it had a couple things I was looking forward to, particularly laughing at ya tropes, there were a lot of things I didn't like about this. I thought the plot needed a lot more work and the relationship could have used a bit more development. One thing I really, really hated was
Spoiler when Dyl was claiming he wasn't gay and was just messing with Caden to win, like COME ON, why do we have to have twists like this, even if it wasn't really true
. Anyway, I did enjoy this overall, I just think it could be improved in a couple of ways. I did think that
Spoiler Caden realising he was gay was handled pretty well, and really reminded me of my own experience
. This book is good for a laugh, but sadly did not quite live up to the hype.

I really wanted to like this based on the premise, but the characters were so flat that I couldn't.
