Listen. I'm down for a strange, vague dystopian universe that has things happen that never really explains its self. It's fun. Was I happy reading this? Usually. It served its purpose. It's a decent book. But it could have been an excellent book.
The following:
1. It really could have used an alternating POV. Because then maybe the anguish and the pining would have actually felt urgent. Instead I just ended up annoyed at the whining. We get it. You lose, you die.
2. A few random nit-picky things kept annoying me. I fully own these being my issues. But like...Dill?? Really? And also, no restaurant in the universe would have vanilla candles. I made a whole list, but I won't go on.
3. If we're going to do semi-illicit gay romance, we need to like... Address it. Or. Something. I love a gay romcom as much as the next queer, but let's just be more comfortable with the subject if we're gonna write it.
All in all, solid concept. Would not read again.

I definitely haven't seen a book like this before so I do believe the author had a challenge writing it. Do I think it was a great idea? Yes. But I don't think it was written well.
I have so much to say about this book I don't even know where to start. I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed because there was a lot of hype around this book and I honestly thought it would become one of my favorites but that's not the case.
I think the writing itself is good; not excellent but not bad either. The characters could use a little more dimension—Natalie & Juliet included. Juliet was used to create a love triangle and as plot device. I would have loved to get to know her more than just the super intelligent girl who would do anything for the people she loved. I like the fact Caden had a feeling about Natalie though it was a big shock for me to discover she was a love interest. There were some things in here that I did not get or were not executed correctly. I figured Caden & Dyl were going to have to find a way to survive without killing the other. I like that they took down the LIC but I don't think they could have decided 'oh hey shouldn't we take down the company tomorrow'. It was way too quick and easy in my opinion. The author sort of forgot about Trevor? He died and was not mentioned again.
The book was a fun book and a quick read. There was humor and I liked that it had some things we see in YA books all the time but written differently. I love that Caden felt that protectiveness towards Juliet too. Loved Caden and Dyl's relationship at one point. There's a queerbating plot point some where in this book and that's where my like towards this book lowered a bit. I wish we had more details on what Dyl was truly feeling at that point.
I had so many expectations and I feel like it didn't deliver. It's 3.5 stars from me.

I didn't love this book as much as I thought I was going to. It still had a pretty interesting premise and it was a fast read.
2.5 I really wanted to like this book, but it fell short in so many ways. more thoughts coming later...
Almost DNF but at the same time, two stars. This was just WEIRD to me.
I can tell I enjoy a book when I am able to finish it in two days. I accidentally read a spoiler before starting and I thought it would not be an surprising read anymore, boy was I wrong! I thoroughly enjoyed this read.
It started off…. Not being gay because it seemed to bizarre but then it was but then it wasn’t again and in the end it was.
I mean…. I don’t even know what to do with myself
