I thoroughly enjoyed this read, although it took some time to actually get involved in the plot. I really enjoyed the character building and relationships that developed, but as someone who enjoys more world building, politics, and magic systems… this was more of a comfort read rather than an engrossing story. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the ride all the same!

While my feelings about the entire series and my love for the characters have influenced my rating for this book, the ending to the Belladonna series was a bit of a mixed bag. While I LOVE Blythe and Aris and I enjoyed parts of their dynamic, I needed more of them getting to know each other. The ending was a bit rushed, though it did have me in tears.
MILD SPOILERS BELOW
It felt like so much of Blythe and Aris' relationship was based on their past and not on getting to know who each other are now and that really made me feel a bit disconnected from them as a couple. I did love the ending and how Aris decided to make a sacrifice for Blythe. I do wish we got to see more of Blythe discovering more of her powers as Life because we got so much of Signa discovering hers in the first two books.
Introducing the new character of Chaos this late in the series felt like a very odd choice. I think if Chaos were introduced in the previous book it would have made this book have a more clear cut villain dynamic. Instead, it came across as if this one was trying to be it's own standalone mystery when I feel it would have worked better as a continuation and conclusion. It made this one feel a bit disconnected from the first two in the series.

*SPOILERS*
Closer to 4.5 because what was that ending! What do you mean we didnt get at least a sweet chapter of Blythe and Aris seeing the world together? Adalyn its on sight! I’m begging for scraps here. There was still so many loose ends in terms of Rima’s death and Chaos’ involvement. It all felt a bit rushed. I can only hope this is because of the announcement of Holly yesterday and we’ll get more clarity then? *sigh*
