I wasn't too excited about starting this book, but a few of my friends really liked it, so I thought I'd give it a go. A few pages in, I almost gave up. A bunch of blahblahblah about some cat. And then I really got sucked in. The parts that took place during the actual Hunger Games reminded me of watching Survivor every Thursday night with my pals in Athens, GA -- I think that must be where the basic inspiration of the Hunger Games comes from (reality TV and Survivor). The end of the games really made me roll my eyes (Rule change! Just Kidding!), but all in all it was a very entertaining book with interesting characters and I'm already sucked into the second one.

decided to reread these for the first time since i was a kid and wow. wowowowowow these are some of the best books of all time. such a powerful commentary and truly so interesting to reread as an adult.

I believe everyone should read The Hunger Games at least once. The book gives a much deeper understanding of the characters, especially Katniss, than the movie (of course, things needed to be concise for the movies).

It's wild to be reading a book about a dystopian society and seeing so many parallels to our current real life.

Even with knowing the general plot having seen the movies multiple times, the book is incredible and kept me on my toes at times. The writing is so captivating and Collins has, in my opinion, perfected the chapter cut off points to keep you hooked. Every time I was going to read just one more chapter I had to battle myself to actually put the book down.

The stakes are high, the whole nation is watching and 24 kids must eliminate each other. What would you do to survive? Would you play a role or be 100% true to yourself, even if it raises your risk of losing your life?

Some might find Katniss unlikable since she's so headstrong but you must remember she's 16, in the poorest parts of a tyrannical nation, forced to grow up and take care of her family since she was a child and now sent to die.
