It's been a while since I've read a book that so immediately and steadily filled me with joy. I loved it -- a beautiful depiction of siblings and forgiveness and the powerful love that bonds a community.

It started off slow. I thought it was destined to be one of those 'great for kids, but harder to love as an adult' kind of books. Then there were all the awkward/uncomfortable social moments, which as I always point out, I generate plenty of on my own in real life thank you, I don't enjoy also experiencing them in my fiction.

And somehow still by the end I was bawling and loved this book so much. It's relatable and real and sweet all at the same time. Realistically, it's four stars for a good story and the fifth star just for being the right book at the right time, but either way it was really good.
