As many other said, this book on focus lacked focus. He talked about a lot of interesting concepts around the idea of focus, but gave little specifically about it. I was hoping for more concrete methods of improving focus, not a discussion of the topic of focus. The fault is more mine for expecting something from this book that it is not. Not a bad book, just lacking practical application for me.

I think your reaction to this depends on how many other books like it you've read before, by Goleman himself as well as by Malcolm Gladwell and other popularizers of this kind of research. Always good to hear about being in the moment, of course.

To echo other reviewers here, this book ironically lacks its titular virtue. Seems more like a collection of articles than a cohesive examination of focus/attention. I felt excitement at the outset with his discussion of the brain science behind focus, but his reach really strayed after that. Sharp writing in this vein, but unfortunately also awfully vague.

دیشب توی خواب و بیداری به خلاصه‌ش روی پادکست بی‌پلاس گوش دادم و الان هرکار میکنم یاد نمیاد که آیا نکته‌ای هم به گوشم اومد یا نه :|

I think it's a good book on the general subject of how the human mind works for some situations.

But for the subject of the book itself (Focus), it fails to explain and teach what was of promised in the cover: How to focus on the important things and ignore the daily interruptions of our life.

It also fails to have focus, going from subject to subject but rarely touch the one he should.

My biggest piece of advice with this book -- don't listen to it as an audio book. The material gets a little technical at times and it is very easy to lose focus! Several times I found myself drifting off and unable to pick up where I left off. Towards the end I began to dread listening to the book and I am really glad to be finished!

Overall, the book is very well researched and provides an interesting study on focus. He provides so much information and most of the time tells enough stories to illustrate his more technical points. He explains much of the research and provides examples from a wide variety of disciplines and industries. The 3 star rating is primarily because I still find it difficult to articulate what the thesis of this book was. There were so many examples from so many places that at times I felt like I was sitting in an Intro to Psychology class, rather than reading a book that was focused on the topic of Attention and Focus. I may come back to this book again at some point if I can get my hands on a paper copy to see if my reading experience is different than my listening one. There were many parts of this book that I did like, but I can't figure out how it was all supposed to go together.
