An excellent continuation of the original marvel run, and a large improvement from the last volumes.
I'm writing this review as someone who has read the 2015 series, and I will compare this to it.
TL:DR Art style is a little rough, but the coloring is great with some great action. The characters of both sides are handled very well. The story isn't too wild but has me hooked.

Art: The art for the main star wars comic was always changing, and I believe the artists change for the next volume. The semirealistic style I'm not really a big fan of. It looks a little rough sometimes, and the characters facial expressions are a little limited. And personally I think Luke doesn't look like himself. But again I remember them having trouble drawing him in the 2015 series. I do think it's an improvement on some of his previous designs. Everyone else looks spot on though. The colors are used really well, as theres usually some color shading (think thats how to describe it) The characters and backgrounds are limited in color, and so the lighting really helps it not look dull. I really liked seeing that when I looked at the panels. The action's pretty good, and the fight scenes are smooth. I'm always a sucker for the rare lightsaber duel in the main comic. It's handled well here as well.

Story: I have alot of faith in this comic because of how it handled the story. The previous run had a very strong first few chapters, but the last handful of arcs dragged for way too long. The arcs didn't seem to have any importance to the character growth or main story. Here, the start isn't too crazy like the original's, but it works and sets up everything well. I have some gripes with this run though. There are some of the pointless side plots. However the side plots are wrapped up quickly to my memory. I've seen a review say it's too safe, and I can see that. Again compared to the previous series that is true. But there are some elements that add some spice to it.

Characters: The characters are handled well, Soule really knows how to write these guys. Lando is just perfect, and I loved seeing him. Leia has some time to shine and be her own character. Luke has some time to go through his hero's journey and see him cope with the changes. There's a good mix of all that sprinkled into his character here. The comic feels like it's Luke's story. The last series never really had a focus on who's story it was and I felt Luke didn't have enough character moments. I think it's supposed to be about his hero's journey mainly, and I think Soule has a good concept of that. Luke feels like Luke here. He's cheerful in face of opression, and I do see some that here. I love the Imperials here. They're not cartoonishly evil. They're people. I really like the crew in charge of Tarkin's Will, you see their motives and how they see the rebels. They believe the rebels are evil, and the empire is good. You even get some banter from the stormtroopers, which humanizes them. Something I haven't really seen much of yet. Even Chewie gets some little moments. All the characters interact with eachother in a great way. Lando and Luke never really interacted in the movies but they do here. The rebels play off eachother really well and I love it.

Other stuff: I think the comedy is pretty good here, it's little moments that just make me happy. It doesn't all have to be fighting and gloom. There's even some good themes explored in this volume. I am always a sucker for a cheesey life lesson in my fiction. I can't wait to see where the story goes.

The art is gorgeous, the dialog is on point, and the story is exciting. It picks things up just after “The Empire Strikes Back.”

This start promises something for Soule's run on the comic!

Luke dealing with PTSD after his encounter with Vader on Bespin. Everyone not trusting Lando. Han being gone. The High Republic mentions?! Sign me the fuck up!
