This is a fun read if you're wanting something that is a little typical, a little predictable, a little cliche, has a fun mystery element to it, and has a touch of spice.

Only this time we dabble into paranormal romance. Now, I was a bit skeptical of how Ali would manage to write an engaging and extremely funny character with her quirks and insecurities and verbal vomiting in this setting, but boy I should've never doubted her.
I adored this book! I adored Misery! And I would totally kill for Ana.
The characters have depth and such interesting personalities. The friendship/sisterhood with Serena had me on the verge of tears wanting to call my best friend to tell her how much I love her.
The interactions with Alex and Ana and Juno and Owen, so funny, so deep, so engaging.
The whole relationship dynamics that Misery had with her family, her people and herself were very interesting to read. And the way she protected herself without realizing it, latching on to the one glimpse at belonging she ever had, yet completely hopeless at the prospect of ever finding more, wow. My poor girl went through a lot, yet managed to become a good person, a loving friend, fiercely loyal and intelligent and brave. I love her.
And look, yes, I love Lowe with the passion of a thousand suns. But, I did want more groveling on his part after his fuck-up, though it wasn't addressed as such, but it is in my book. The things he said were harsh, and I get what he was trying to do but, honestly, I am done with MMC hiding vital information from FMC in order to protect them or some bullshit.
Like, dude, if you love me as much as you claim you do, then you'll show me the respect of treating me like the grown ass woman, capable of making my own damn decisions, that I am. Thank you very much.
I did, however, liked that Misery communicated that (I would've liked her to ice him out an make him crawl over hot coals in penitence, but oh well). It was refreshing to see a FMC that embraces her agency and proactively works with her partner to reach a solution. And I liked that she called Lowe out on the sheer idiocy of his logic and the emotional implications of the things he said.
So, all in all, would totally read again and again. Ali Hazelwood remains my go to whenever I want to read, no matter my mood.
PS1: That ending tho, Alli don't tease me. I'm gonna need a second book please, I'm already shipping those two and I need more of them.
PS2: Fuck Father, fuck him. I hope he lives forever, isolated and powerless and constantly aware of his utter insignificance.
PS3: No, really, I need a second part. Like, there are some loose ends! I need to know what becomes of Mick. I need to see Ana grow and find out about her nature. I need more of Lowe and Misery, I need to see the marking ceremony. And God, please, I really really really need more of Koen and Serena.
PS4: I didn't even talk about the smut but yes please, more of this, HOT!
