It took some time for me to write my thoughts upon this book as it was so awful to read. The character don't have any depth to them, with the protagonist being the worse, as he only becomes obsessed with the book because he's told so. The story, although it had an interesting premise, is very dull, not being able to captivate me into reading more of it and learn what the codex had to so important as to demand a quest.

The computer game might be the best of this book, but even so is badly explored by the author. The end was predictable. In general, this book was a waste of time.

Can't go wrong with a book featuring books, libraries and preservation, but the ending fell short. The story did keep me involved though.

I'm still trying to figure out the point.

A 25 yr old investment banker has 2 weeks off before he moves to England to continue working. In the meantime, he gets himself mixed up with a Duke, Duchess, a stiff post-grad chick, and a fantasy computer game that he seems to think is reality.

It's an odd book. There are puzzles to be solve, but it's so unreal that it's hard to be believed. Yet, is there reality in the history lessons?

And the point is that he gets screwed? Blech.

I think this book would have been so awesome to read when it first came out, but now the technology and internet stuff in it seems so dated! It was still fun and I enjoyed it a lot, but it definitely had the air of quaintness to it.

Definitely a readalike to Mr Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore and Ready Player One (my favorite of the three, helped in large part by listening to the Wil Wheaton-narrated audiobook)

This book started out really slow and I had a very hard time getting past the first couple of chapters. After I got past these chapters the story picked up, but I still wasn't impressed after I finished the book.

Ugh. I thought the premise of this book was intriguing at first, but I found the two plotlines pretty ridiculous and far-fetched. Also, I have never met anyone who was an expert in fourteenth century English literature AND Renaissance printing and bookbinding AND AND AND everything medieval! while still being in grad school (not that she's really an expert considering all the errors she makes). Yargh. Anyway, it is ridiculous and not in a good way and it has a dumb ending that basically answers no questions and leaves all the threads loose. ALL OF THEM.

I wish I could put 3.5 stars, but The Magicians was so good I will bump this up half a star. It was also very imaginative and well-written, although not as impactful as The Magicians.

I think you have to be a bibliophile to like this book since the action so far is limited to book descriptions, but there is also a weird gaming aspect to this book...I frankly want to know more about MOMUS and the Artiste! Hmmm....!

Just finished it...ending lacked a little imagination but it kept me reading....way better ending than DaVinci Code. Clever concept overall....I enjoyed the ride while it lasted and the main character was likeable...

I loved the world of this book but wasn't as interested in the MC. Shortly after reading this I decided to see our stories about and by women.
