I really enjoyed the uniqueness of this story and the characters. My only gripe is that it took to long to get going. I felt like we spent too much time in backstory for the main character. That being said, once the main plot took off it was hard to put down.

I’ve been wanting to read Strange the Dreamer for years now and it did not disappoint. It is wonderfully written, full of terrors and splendours and it made me Weep. Also, I hate to break it to all other fictional men but they can pack their bags: Lazlo Strange is the most beautiful protagonist I’ve ever encountered, both inside and out. I hope the second book will be just as good, although I suspect there to be a little less dreaming and a lot more drama (and imminent double heartbreak). Either way, I look forward to diving right back into Lazlo’s world as soon as I’ve emotionally recovered from the first part of the duology.

Tldr; I hate the age gap between Lazlo and Sarai, because it was entirely unnecessary as the characters speak for themselves. The setting is beautiful.

This book is….interesting. To preface, I did really enjoy reading it. Laini Taylor’s writing style is captivating and so beautifully written. She can turn a description of a turd into poetry if she wanted to. That being said, the book was over 500 pages long and the real action happened about 400 pages in. I found myself getting impatient with the characters and the development, and wanted the book to move faster. However, I don’t know that it could have been any shorter? I can’t wait to read the second book in the duology though!
