A novel as opposed to an account. No speech marks, repetitive writing - not for everyone but I thought it was relentless and effective for the subject matter. RIP Liam Whelan

In many ways David Peace at his very best…the repetition building a formidable story; the insightful characterisation, making mythological figures human; the detail - the immense detail. It’s a style of writing that alienates many of course but here there’s an emotional centre that some of his work has often appear to lack and with Jimmy Murphy he has put at the story’s centre one of the true heroes of this awful tale

Stopped at 61%. Great first 50 pages but I found the writing style unbearable with constant and unnecessary repetition which is unlike anything I have ever read before and ruins any pacing there may have been. As a lifelong Man United fan this was really disappointing but I can't face reading another 200 pages to finish this book.

This was a beautiful book. The constant repetition of names was used well. You really feel what it must have been like during and just after the crash. Having supported Man U and lived in Manchester my whole life so I knew about the Busby Babes and the Munich Air Disaster but this book really 9it in context the world in which it happened. This was within living memory of WW1 and WW2 so to have another disaster of lives cut short really wrenches at the common society.
This book is really good but on very sad at the same time.
Christopher Ecclestone narrated really well also.
