I will echo the thoughts of many reviewers when I say that this was not nearly as compelling as Long Way Round. There is much more urgency and danger in the first trip - not that I would wish all that on them again...I will probably watch the DVD instead of finishing this book.

This is a good follow up book, with some good descriptions of the people, the wildlife and the landscapes seen while travelling throughout Africa. There are some sad stories and some funny ones and there are some nice surprises too. I haven't seen the TV show, so the photos were nice in terms of helping illustrate at least some of what they saw. I enjoyed reading this as a follow up to their previous journey, 'Long Way Round'. I gather there is now a 3rd installment, as it were, which was released on streaming TV last year, so if there's a third book then I'd consider reading it at some point, yes. It did leave me wondering if Ewan's wife has ended up continuing with the bike riding - that isn't really clarified but then maybe that's just me being nosy lol. Its a decent read anyway, with good appendixes at the back for anyone interested in reading more of the specifics in terms of distances travelled and equipment used.

This was Charley and Ewan's second adventure. I loved the first one - Long Way Round and I was looking forward to their next great adventure. I didn't like this one as much as the first. It seemed like they were not into it like the last one, but it was nice reading about their travels in Africa. I would like to see them take off on another adventure, but this time with no producers dictating the schedule they have to be on. Reading about the trip felt like it was more of a job or a chore to them than actually experiencing what should have been one of the greatest times in their lives.

Pretty good but does suffer from the inevitability of always describing the same tribulations of keeping the bikes on the road going through the sand.
