It’s interesting to read this, published in 2019, in 2025. So much has changed since then — and so much is still the same.
4.5 stars. This is one of those books that's hard to rate except based on how much you agree or disagree with what's said. However, I fundamentally agree with most of what Lindy West is challenging us as a society to face and address and rectify. It runs the gamut from feminist issues to climate change, and while West's use of profanity may not be enjoyed by everyone, it is often used in a punctuating manner that is meant to jar us out of an academic mindset (i.e. observers, not participants) to one of everyday realities and responsibilities that we all share. At turns devastating, incisive, infuriating, and inspiring, it is well worth reading.

this was really good!
i was a little more trump-centric than i thought it would be, but that didn't matter that much to me.
some of the references went over my head, but the overall theme or idea of the chapters were really well explored, even through the tangents and examples. everything that was included was relevant.
