This book was written towards the end of Trump’s first term and very much rings true all over again 6 years later as he starts the shit show again. Very interesting read and makes you even more aware of what we can do stay informed. I hope she writes another book soon because I want to hear her take on where we go from here.

Awesome feminist collection of essays. Audiobook is read by the author!

Yes, I got here from that trumpet page (the one that does the rounds on every meme group I'm in every few months), and yes, that is the best chapter in the book. That first paragraph is the tightest, most hilarious single paragraph I have ever read, and I am happy to own the book on the grounds of that page alone.

The rest of the book won't be particularly readable for anyone slightly too young or too old or too not-american to know intimately what films and shows she's talking about. I had my mobile and millennial housemate on standby to help me figure out the various dropped names (Who is Adam Sandler again? Have you seen episode 247 of South Park? etc). But overall, this is really, really funny, honestly a relief to read, and I will be recommending Lindy West to everyone I know.

This book began promisingly enough with a witty well written feminist manifesto. She lost me a bit on the Adam Sandler chapter where she basically lists out the plot of half of Adam Sandler's movies. I'm not huge fan of Adam Sandler. I too think his movies tend to be juvenile and he plays the same man child over and over again, but I think we can all agree that this is no longer the case without Lindy West pointing this out to us. Any feminist knows how disgusting Trump is how women suffer due to media and culture and the men in power. Heck, I hate Gwen's Goop empires just as much as she does. But many of her conclusions are well-trod beliefs and experiences that many women already have and are aware of. So that begs the question who is this book written for? Because frankly she's preaching to the choir here.

That said Lindy West is an entertaining writer. I enjoyed her sprinkling of pop cultural references. I liked the majority of her short but snappy essays. Overall, I liked this book and I'm certain I would love Lindy West if I ever met her. This book was smart and had cutting social and cultural critique. Did it blow my mind with previously unknown revelations? No. But perhaps I wasn't the right audience for this book at all.
