challenging funny hopeful informative reflective fast-paced

I like Lindy West, but didn’t find this book interesting. Why were there essays about South Park and Adam Sandler? We listened to the audiobook on a road trip and she reads it herself and well. I agree with her points, but she doesn’t make any new ones here.

I wanted to like this a little more than I did.

I love Lindy West's writing and am very on board with her politics, but this collection of essays was kindof all over the place. SOME chapters were really strong and interesting, and others (particularly the first one) felt simultaneously 'right on!' and stale/preaching to the choir.

West makes a ton of really intelligent points hilariously and emphatically, so I don't mean this as a major slam. But Shrill is a tough act to follow, and I did feel like something was lacking on this one as a whole.

It was well written and interesting, but enough has happened - what with reelecting Trump- that it was too hard to read.

aged so badly. written by a millenial in 2019 and you can tell

Everyone needs to read this. Whether you agree with her or not she makes excellent, researched and succinct points on so many things that are changing and need changing in our society.

Although I wasn’t the biggest fan of West’s narrative voice (too much sarcasm and tangential rants for me), I appreciated her thoughtful and accurate observations and insights of our political world today.

Lindy West is my hero. This is a hill I am willing to die on. She gets it, and she says it in a way that I never would be able to. After reading this, I feel empowered, that my feelings are validated and shared by so many more women out there.
