My non-Americanness let me a little lost in the overwhelming presence of American pop culture references. But overall very interesting reflections and a good laugh in between.

In interesting read post-Covid, in 2025’s America, now steadfast in the first year of Trump’s second term.
I found Shrill to be a very memorable and affecting read, so I've been anxiously waiting for Lindy's latest book since it was announced. I did find the book highly readable and engaging, but I didn't find it hit me all that hard. Large swaths of it felt obvious and shallow. It was neither deeply personal, nor deeply insightful about society at large. It was pretty forgettable all in all, and I'm sad that there wasn't more to it.

I am so happy and excited with this book, also amazed by the fact I just finished reading it and tr*mp is impeached!
So appreciate this being put in the world so quickly, but I think I will return to these essays in the future as well. Plus, it’s funny, as West writing often balances the line between the humor and horror of being alive right now.

Strong, funny prose that’s as good as Shrill. The best chapters are the ones on female archetypes in 80s/90s TV, the Seattle music gear swap “identity war” (in which lovely things happen on Facebook), and the refutation of South Park.
