After years of having it on my TBR, I'm glad I was able to check this one off of my list. I was aware of most of this story, having watched Keep Sweet, Prey, and Obey. It's absolutely heartbreaking and frustrating what the author and members of the FLDS went and continue to go through. I can't imagine growing up in this isolated world, and the fact that there are people who are still so committed to the word of this horrendous man and live in fear of disobeying is truly awful.

This was simultaneously a difficult read and not a difficult read. Elissa’s story is heartbreaking but told in a way that you can empathize with how she was feeling and understand the context of how growing up FLDS moulded the way she saw the world before leaving the cult.
