I have waited this book for soooo long and then when I finally got my copy and started to read it I discovered that a part of pages 243-244 (paperback) was missing. Thanks to kind people in the bookworld I got photos of the missing parts and got to finish it. I wrote to Bookdepository and we'll see if I'll get a replacement book or not.
I picked this book off my shelf to read when I felt like I had nothing else moderately interesting to read. I had read City of Ghosts about a year and a half ago and loved it, I was expecting pretty much the same level with Tunnel of bones but Victoria Schwab blew my expectations clear out of the water.
One issue I have with most sequels, even Harry Potter, is they spend way to much time reminding you about the first book. I don't mind a little reminder, especially after a year and a half, and Tunnel of Bones does this so well. I never felt like it info dumped me with happenings of the first, it just sprinkled reminders here and there, where it felt required and natural.
Cassidy and her best (dead) friend Jacob continue their world tour with Cassidy's parents to Paris. The humor is still here, and at times funnier, and the tension and fear is even more prevalent. The story is engrossing, broken up into 5 parts that flow so naturally together.
This time around there were some actual scary moments. Schwab does a good job of giving your imagination just enough info to have it run hogwild with extra details and make some scenes actually a little scary, even for a kids book. Maybe that was just me though?
There was some parts that were more padding that I would have liked, and the overall plot was a bit... crazy and a bit unbelievable (yes, even in the context of a girl with a best dead friend ghost, ghost hunting.)
The ending sets up the third book very well. Enough closure that you're not sitting staring at your calendar waiting for September, but enough of a cliff hanger that you need to know what's next.
If you were happy with City of Ghosts, I highly recommend Tunnel of Bones, it improves everything that the first book did.

Minder goed dan deel 1. Ik vond het verhaal bij vlagen saai. Geen serie die ik verder ga lezen.
