It's been a while since I've read a Grisham, and this was like coming back to an old friend. His centering of the legal side of things isn't for everyone, but I eat it up. The "justice" system in this country needs a complete dismantling and rebuilding, and this based-on-reality novel really highlights that. The sham of a trial, the sham of 'evidence' and 'experts' during a trial, the racism still existent in many people. My first book of Grisham's was The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town, and it's what made me fall in love with his writing. This was really reminiscent of that.

It was a filler read I picked up to pass the time while in a slump and I knew nothing about the author of the book, and I was pleasantly surprised by how invested I got into the whole book. I absolutely loved the main character as well as

Quincy and how he handled himself. It was borderline inspirational.

I think I will be giving this author's books a look after this. Wonderful read.

I always enjoy Grisham books-- I always know what I'm getting. This one had the expected elements. I was interested to learn that this was roughly based on a story of an inmate who was executed in TX. Just Mercy is way better, but this was entertaining and full of "goold ole boys" who hold positions of power and shouldn't. I still cling to reading all the Grisham novels because my dad and I shared a love for them .
