fast-paced

Again, I don't write reviews for this series, I mostly take notes of where I'm up to in order to keep the stories straight in my head.

Lots of goodies here, and some epic awesomeness with regards to what happens right after Luffy destroys a Celestial dragon's FACE.

- Two words: Silvers Rayleigh. There really isn't a more perfect word to describe this man than that of badass. And he shows it the minute he made his presence known (and boy, he makes quite an impressionable entrance!).

- They all eventually meet up at Rayleigh's place to talk shop. To get their ship coated, they need some time for Rayleigh to coat it, meaning three days at the earliest. So, naturally, in order to keep out of the Marines' way, they have to lay low. Easier said than done when you're part of Luffy's crew.

- There is some interesting back story with Rayleigh and the disbandment of the Roger pirates. Kind of sad, and I hope this isn't some parallel play on the future of the Straw Hat pirates. Though, Zoro, take note, that is the power you, as a first mate, will soon have. Very soon.

- The Marines are attempting to cramp up the Straw Hats' style, but to no avail, considering now Captain Kid and Trafalgar Law are helping Luffy up a bit. We see the skills of every one of the Supernovas, namely Eustace Kid's and Trafalgar Law's (Kid's Devil's Fruit is fantastic, just saying).

- The introduction of Admiral #2 (Kizaru) is put into play, which is pretty frightening, considering the underlying question is now "HOW DO YOU BEAT A GUY MADE OF LIGHT?!" I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

- The Pacifistas show up, creating a bit of trouble with regards to, well, everyone. I did love the Straw Hat collaboration against the Pacifista that they fought. To bad it wasn't enough, 'cause obviously, Kizaru joined the fray, and so did another Pacifista, and, ultimately, Kuma himself.

- Rayleigh taking some active participation in attempting to save Zoro was hella epic. I loved that people respected him, Marines included.

- I did not love the beating Zoro and the rest took. And the fact that he disappears in this volume is just...insane. The next volume is proving to be depressing.

- That said, I do love the chapter images once again. Yay for CP9!
adventurous slow-paced

  • Ah jeez another fighting-heavy portion of the series
  • The backstory explanation of Black Rogers was p neat tho ngl
  • And I like that Nami, Usopp, and Chopper are starting to play a real role in the fight scenes
  • Plus I love the tease of Law and Kid's devil fruit powers and what they're capable of

Well, that volume packed a punch. We get both important world building information as well as some truly devastating moments. This arc has been a real collection of highs and low, ending on an ultimate low. It's propelling the story into interesting waters though.
