And the Governor is here!
Wow this volume's subject matter is loads darker than the previous ones, the reader gets to see how dark some people can get during the zombie apocalypse. I was mega shocked by the rape and torture of Michonne and just how sick in the head the Governor is.. Stuff of nightmares. However shocking it is, it's more believable than some the lame soap opera that was going on in the last volume.
Carol is an absolute freak show. Glad to see Sophia is allowed to live in the comics. Carl is a lot more likeable as well.

3.5 stars - This one was miles better than the fourth volume. I think it's really interesting to have a brutal and villainous antagonist that is so extreme from the zombies that have plagued them since the beginning. I remember finding the governor's storyline pretty vividly - however, I feel like the mistreatment of female characters within this series is only glorified with his disgusting actions against Michonne. Not only does it make me really uncomfortable, but I find it also highlights Kirkman's treatment of other female characters throughout the series and the way they are portrayed whether in times of happiness or duress.

YOU. SICK. FUCK. I am done with your misogynist, sexist, crap of a comic.
It really says a lot about the kind of writer you are, when the only ways your male characters exude their authority and their maleness is by raping, fighting with each other and dismissing the women as only sexual objects or motherly figures. AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE WAY THE WOMEN ARE WRITTEN. Every single one of the female characters has so much internalized misogyny, but it's only because the person who's writing this is a total misogynist, sexist prick, who's probably never met a woman in his life.
It's a shame, because I really wanted to see how the comic story differs from the TV series. But I'm not spending another minute reading this crapfest.

I'll get the facts from the wiki.

Despite the graphic and hard to read scenes, I'm enjoying this comic series so far. The Governor is much darker in the comics and his treatment of Rick, Michonne and Glenn had me disturbingly shocked.
