And this was a dark one! 2.5 Stars. CW: violence, gore, death, rape
I think that this series is a lot darker than I anticipated and I'm not really sure how I feel about it. Kirkman's treatment of women in this series is disturbing and it's particularly difficult on Black women which I'm not enjoying. This volume explores what's going to happen to the characters once they realize that there is a possibility that other "colonies" that exist. Of course, things don't go as planned and Rick and two other characters get caught up in a hell of a mess. This is where the book gets extremely dark and honestly if it wasn't for the project I'm working on, I'm not sure I would continue. I'm interested in seeing how our crew is going to handle this new discovery/group.

Hard to read volume coz it brings violence (against women) to the next level
This volume was a bit slow moving-probably necessary to keep the story going, but nothing too earth shattering here.
dark
tense
fast-paced
Re-read October 2014.
Enjoyed it much more the second time round. Great pace and interesting character developments all round.

Having watched the television series before reading this volume I had some ideas as to what would happen. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. The Governor is an even more evil character than his AMC counterpart. The brutality here is taken to another level as its usual reserved for the undead. Not so much here. Kirkman also does an amazing job of showing how certain kinds of people would begin to react to a world that will never be the same as they were used to. It very good stuff. The art by Charlie Adlard is, as usual, perfect for the book but not overly spectacular. His best work are the scenes in which the most violence takes place. Overall, a very good book.
Not as interesting as the past parts but I'm still curious as to how things go on!
WTF is with Carol in this????

This was a re-read of volume 5 so I knew what was going to happen already, but I hate The Governor with a burning passion and he makes me so angry!
As always the art is stunning and the amount of detail blows me away. The story line and characters are interesting and I look forward to finally reaching a point where I am reading for the first time and not just re-reading.

If I could ignore everything Kirkman is doing with his female characters, I would have a higher opinion of this volume. I just can't though. I keep reading the series, expecting him to get better at women, but it just isn't happening.
