Review:
This has been my favorite of the series so far! The pranks and chemistry between the FMC and MMC before the trip is amazing. The MMC is protective during the trip, despite their mutual dislike. Both the FMC and MMC grow in their own ways. The FMC becomes more confident in what she wants for her future and the MMC expands his horizons by travel and getting outside of his comfort zone.
Summary:
David enjoys his predictable life, and that does not include his neighbor and her cat. His brother bets him to do something unpredictable, and when he finds a brochure for a trip to hike to Machu Picchu, he takes it as a sign.
Isabella loves to travel and update her website with her travels. It's hard to balance while working at the family restaurant. Her parents don't understand her desire to travel and not take over the restaurant. Her next trip is to Peru, to discover part of her lineage.
When she arrives in Peru and meets up with her hiking group, she sees David, her neighbor. Their trip lasts a few days. They share a tent as, despite being nemesis, they know each other. One night, they share a kiss and realize that their antagonize was hiding something else. They keep their new relationship when they return home, but Isabella has been offered a sponsorship to travel all over the world. David and Isabella work through staying together and doing long distance or letting Isabella explore her passion without David holding her back.

Check Mate is a delightfully sweet, fast-paced rom-com that captures the irresistible "neighbors-to-lovers" and "opposites-attract" tropes with irresistible charm. This story delivers everything I wanted: warmth, humor, and amazing chemistry. The prank wars kept me laughing, and I quickly fell in love with David and Isa!

I ate this book up just like the others. David is a neat freak and isa is a hurricane it’s a match made in heaven. They balance each other out perfectly and i love seeing the way he is able to let himself loose around her. They understand and respect each other. He let her go to pursue her dreams and he almost went crazy. Gotta love that. And he’s rich. Also I’m just obsessed with David’s family dynamics and the bet with brooks is going to make such an interesting book. Overall such a cute book would def recommend.
Quotes:
“You know, this is all so adventurous of you. I never thought you’d leave your home.” I look into her eyes fervently, so she knows what I’m about to say is serious. She stills and meets my gaze. “Isa, you’re my home now. You’ve helped me discover that there’s value in spontaneity… in fact, I think it’s been good for me.”
“Day six of the break: my yard looks boring without flamingos. Day seven of the break: food has lost its taste… the sun has lost its warmth. Day eight of the break: my house is lonely, I’m considering getting a cat. Day nine of the break: I met with a client today and he told me I look like a love-sick puppy. Day ten of the break: I can't live without Isabella Romero.”

give up everything to fly to a new country and tell a girl to marry her even though you had one date, only actually spent time with her for one month ? Realistic, probably not. Did I eat it up, yes yes I did!!
It isn't my favorite of the author but I still enjoyed it!

I was really liking this thoughtful, lightweight romp with realistic character - until they rushed with choices at the end. UGH
I really liked the premise of this and most of the book but the ending was a little over the top for me. We all love to read a happy ending, but that doesn’t mean you have to jam it all in.
2.75 ⭐️
I enjoyed the overall story, however, the ending went very fast. It seemed unrealistic for the characters personalities so this made the book kinda fall flat for me.
