I absolutely loved David and Isabella
BRIEF SYNOPSIS: David and Isabella are neighbors and they can’t stand each other. Isabella is carefree and spontaneous and David is a creature of comfort. When David’s brother makes him a bet that he won’t do something unpredictable, he signed up for a hiking trip in Peru. It’ll also be great to get away from Isabella for a week. But turns out Isabella is on the trip too. As the two spend the week together they quickly realize that maybe they don’t actually hate each other.
This is book 3 in the Under Kansas Skies series and I absolutely loved the first two. I honestly wasn’t sure how I was going to like David’s story, simply because I hadn’t necessarily been drawn to his character in the first two books. However I loved it! This is an opposites attract romance and David and Isabella were so perfect for each other. Their relationship actually reminded me of this quote from Modern Family:
“There are dreamers and there are realists in the world. You’d think the dreamers would find the dreamers and the realists would find the realists, but more often than not the opposite is true. See, the dreamers need the realists to keep them from soaring to close to the sun. And the realists? Well, without the dreamers, they might not ever get off the ground.”
I loved their whole dynamic and what they brought into each others’ lives. I also did not expect this book to end the way it did but I was totally here for it. I really enjoyed seeing more of the Windell family and also getting to know Isabella’s family.
It is honestly going to be so hard for me to pick my favorite couple out of this series. But next up is Brooks’s story and I have been drawn to him since his first appearance in Running Mate. I preordered his book last night and it will probably be my first holiday read of the season.

This was, generally, a fun read from Leah Brunner that takes the reader on an adventure to Peru. Having traveled there before, and visited Machu Picchu a couple of times, I was left with wanting more as Peruvian food is amazing and I feel a travel blogger would want to experience that, and also because while MP is amazing to see, it isn’t all that Peru has to offer. There were a couple of inaccuracies (e.g, there is no train from MP down the hill, but a bus to Aguas Calientes and then a train from AC to another town in the Sacred Valley (and sometimes even right to Cusco!!
I really disliked the pranks that involved animals or interfering in a person’s job. They were unnecessar, unfunny, and showed, to a degree, a lack of maturity on the part of the characters.
I felt the ending was really rushed with many life decisions and events happening in a VERY short period of time, especially relative to when we first meet the MC at the beginning.

This was cute but didn’t blow me away. The romance was very fast and surface level feeling, though I did enjoy the character development, especially with David. There were some amusing scenes, my favorite of which was Lizzy the Llama. Overall an enjoyable read!

CHECK MATE By Leah Brunner
David a CA enjoys his uncomplicated predictable life, but absolutely hates his next door neighbour Isa.

This book was so funny—full of fun pranks, great banter, and fantastic chemistry. David and Isa’s enemies to lovers, opposites attract, forced proximity story was just the best.
Things I loved:
-The bet
-Neighbor pranks
-Family text threads
-Mo & his love for David
