This book felt a lot like twilight, and honestly I did not enjoy it. The story could have been better with out the romance, as it felt very toxic and forced. I enjoyed the concept, but felt it could have been done better.
Graphic: Animal death, Death, Mental illness, Suicide, Toxic relationship, Violence, Medical content
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship, Sexual harassment
Minor: Addiction, Bullying, Kidnapping, Grief
Story's dragging, not to mention confusing as hell (pun not intended), the heroine was a pain in the ass, and the characters are uninteresting, though I like Alex and John. Cabot didn't meet my expectations when she modernized Persephone's myth, unlike when she modernized King Arthur's story in Avalon High.
Wow! This book is awesome! Sometimes I forget how great of an author Meg Cabot is. I totally didn't see the ending coming at all, but once it happened it all made sense. I am very much looking forward to book #2!

I first discovered this book in 2013 and haven’t ben able to forget it since. I have read and reread and then reread this again and still get a great amount of enjoyment out of this book. With goo LGBTQi+ representation in Richards Smith and an interesting storyline (albeit simple and doesn’t energy to devour). For a book to read on a lazy afternoon or after a stressful work/school week, I will always return to the comfort of Piece and her friends. What impressed me most, is that I remembered this book for years after reading it once in early high school – it is that memorable to me.
I enjoyed the book but I did not think that it was a good as Mediator.
I was so looking forward to reading my first Meg Cabot book. I’ve heard such wonderful things about her stories over the years. This story is told by a girl, Pierce, who died and came back to life, after experiencing the Underworld. And then there is the guy that is linked to her who was both in the Underworld and in this world. The story focuses on how she didn’t want to be in the Underworld in any way, but there really wasn’t anything terrifying there to justify her feelings.
A lot of the major events of the book happen by Pierce telling us about them because they are in the past. This leaves any events that could make me feel more for her being told after the fact. It also leaves the story with very little action. As I got halfway through the book I sat hoping that something would happen that would be exciting. Then with 50 pages left I was still thinking the same thing and then something came up that could be the “big event”, but then it fizzled out and died away with no more force than it began with.
While it was a quick and easy read, I felt empty after reading it. It had no impact on me. I have no feelings towards any of the characters as none other than Pierce are featured long enough to form attachments. This story had so much promise from the excerpt and maybe Cabot’s waiting until book 2 of the trilogy to really get things going, and I will probably read it if given to me, at least to justify spending a couple of hours on this book. Cabot’s writing itself is good, it’s the formation of the story that falls flat.
Book Rating: 3/5

Honestly, I sped through this book, reading it whenever I had free time, it was just that good. Pierce is constantly trying to push John away, but that doesn't stop him from being there whenever she needs him, which is often, since furies are after her ever since she went to the underworld. See Pierce almost died and she didn't see a white light, no what she saw was a lot crazier than that- the underworld, which John is sort of in charge of, at least this portion of it. Anyway, Pierce gets herself into a lot of situations and John bails her out of them, but also gets her blamed for it all, which is one of the reasons she pushes him away all the time. In the end, she stops pushing and ends up in the last place she wants to be, but at least she's with him. I will definitely be continuing this series.
Such confusion of the narration, which is surprising for Meg Cabot books.
Sometimes it's present with past inbetween sentences with conversation confusing with thoughts..
Lost the interest of reading at times. But can't help suspense no matter how it is once a book is started..
And now it's over.
Nice plot and characterization.
