I am usually not a character-based reader, but Emma Straub may have converted me.
I absolutely adored this book. Reading it in my mid-twenties was the perfect time to read this, nestled between the teenagers and their parents, understanding and relating to parts of both of their stories. I loved seeing the characters ebb and flow, in both their selves and their relationships with each other.

There's something about a story that deals with coming to terms with the past and the future that is so resonant to me right now.
Moderate: Drug use, Sexual content, and Fire/Fire injury

This is...okay. It has the occasional funny moment, but it's boring. The characters and plot feel stereotypical and are terrible without being interesting. Eighteen-year-old Ruby is the most intriguing, but she still made me roll my eyes.
Moderate: Sexual content
Minor: Death
