I read this book in a day not wanting to put the book down I was taken away into a dark twisted family life where everything appears perfect on the outside but inside secrets are hidden away. Merry, Sam and their baby Conner are a prefect little family in their own little world in Sweden! Sam who has the perfect wife merry who bakes pies , cooks well and cleans and sees to the garden. Merry loves and adore her baby, Sam who wants nothing else but to have a homely wife and child of his own in the most idyllic setting Sweden in the woods in the remote with few neighbors. They seem to have it all but do they? But is merry all that she appears to be. Then along comes frank her childhood girlfriend they use to be like sisters. They grew up together. After all they share 30years of friendship or whatever this might be called ponytails snipped off with garden shears dolls stolen tales to get each other in trouble. So when Frank comes to visit she’s the only one who sees the cracks in merry’s perfect life. Does frank have a motive with her visit to merry’s perfect life?? Also what happened back in the US to cause Sam to pick up everything quickly and move? This book was told in alternating perspectives of Merry , Sam and Frank, which helped build the tension and suspense quickly. These are definitely not people you want as neighbors or friends. Also the ending is quite shocking! Thank you to the publishing company for the copy!

3.5 if I could. It was definitely a book I found I couldn’t put down, mostly because I was so shocked and horrified at what was happening and needed answers. I enjoyed the writing style and found the author did a wonderful job of writing from each character perspective. I however did not like the ending, I found myself very confused and frustrated. I have multiple unanswered questions and just feel generally annoyed about what happened. Would read this author again though.

4.5 stars. Could not put it down. Compelling and captivating. The only time that I actually enjoyed multiple POV’s.

The writing was great in this book. The story was very, very dark and I definitely struggled to continue reading it. I think if the characters were interacting with each other normally, I would have enjoyed this more.

i read the first 20pages and was like oh no this will suck.... i surprisingly loved it the fuck. it is disturbing and kinda sad and not even close to what i thought it would be about. i don't want to spoil it so i will just say fuck them kids i guess.

Great twists. Difficult to read, at about the middle. The evil, the injustice almost too much.

every character feels like they’re on the verge of committing heterosexuality-induced murder suicide at all times

Dark, intense and a twisted crazy ride. Hard to put down even the times when it was easy to see the things coming.

What did I just read? I didn't hate it but it was kinda like watching a train wreck. I didn't really like it but I couldn't quit reading it.

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not impact my rating or review.
Great debut novel from Michelle Sacks! Not an easy task to write a book so full of thoroughly unlikeable characters that still made me want to pick it up and read it again and again. I always enjoy a story told from different characters point of view and I flew through this book in a couple of days.

I loved the setting, Sweden depicted initially as their dream place to raise a family quickly becomes dark and isolated in the realities of daily life. Twists and turns throughout left me gripped until the end.
