Really enjoyable read! Very good story and because it was quite short I finished it very quickly.

It‘s about the rejection of idealism and daydreaming; the cherishing of living in the moment, knowing it won‘t last blah blah blah…
Like, this is literally the blueprint for Belly, Jeremiah and Conrad from The Summer I Turned Pretty — everybody is unlikeable, the woman is a candle in the wind and though I can‘t determine whether the narrator is Jer or Conrad, he‘s most definitely a fool (and a groomer).
Maybe I need to shove a cigarette in my mouth, listen to Ultraviolence by Lana Del Rey and date 40-year-olds in order to get it, but… nah, that‘s not worth it.
It‘s devastating for sure, there are some great pieces of dialogue and an honesty I‘m not used to in classics. And I get the protagonist‘s loneliness — I just don‘t think it‘s that deep. sorry.

My God, I have no words for this. In all honesty, I didn’t expect to get such a profound feeling upon reading the book. I thought it would be another usual distressing work of Dostoevsky. I kind of expected the ending and my tears suddenly retreated into my eyes. However, I do not feel contempt for the main character’s agony. Instead, I feel proud and happy to see how he still finds a way to take it positively, to look at the light and immerse in it again. Utterly beautiful. I was blown away, but my chest feels warm with love. I am content, having felt so much within just a few short pages of the book.

I was already familiar with Dostoyevsky's work. But God, I never thought he could write in such an agonisingly beautiful way! It's truly devastating. Will never recovers from it.
