Overall, this story came together in the end with lots of “wow” connections!
The crime happens right in the beginning, and then you’re introduced to a unique cast of unreliable, flawed, and (as time progresses) connected characters. Although at times the story is a bit slow, you’re left wondering and turning the pages to see who… and why… and what!?

I liked that the setting was around this riverside community, and I liked the characters of Laura (so damaged and unreliable, but also so funny & redeeming at times) and also of Irene.

Didn’t love this - would have probably done 2 1/2 stars. It was a decent read but not a great payoff.

I don't think the book had any redeeming qualities. The story wasn't interesting, and neither were the characters or the writing. it was a pot of depressing people all being horrid to each other. and the book within the book added nothing to the story - it just made my eyes glaze over. there wasn't even a good twist. I just didn't have a good time.

3.5 stars. Meh, a quick read. Felt like too many characters and subplots to keep up with. No really likable characters. I didn’t feel much tension, I really didn’t care who did what by the end.
