Heartbreaking and at the same time it impresses by the resilience of the author. A book that gets you out of your comfort zone and gets you on the right side of the history, giving you opportunity to reflect on the injustices

I found the pacing of this autobiography to be a little slow and meandering. I get that this was written over 50 years ago (1969), back when there was a sore lack of diversity and representation in the stories that were shared to a wide audience. Somehow it just didn't really have much of an impact on me.

A beautiful and candid autobiography of Maya Angelou from her birth to age 17, showing us how she evolved from a shy and awkward girl victim of racism to a self-possessed young woman and mother. Wonderful writing style, a deep love for literature, an engrossing story with a sense of humour and a rage for justice.

Extremely beautiful writing, you forget your reading non fiction in the best way possible

An infamous "banned" book by one of the greatest poets of our time, this memoir gives a powerful look into what it was like to grow up during the Jim Crow era.
