Very simplistically written but that's not a massive criticism, as the story itself is very engaging. It's not original and it's highly predictable, but it's good if you want an easy read that is not very taxing.

A lovely slow-burn procedural-styled take-off of The Count of Monte Cristo. What it lacks in action sequences and fantastical derring-do, it more than makes up for with its excellent characterization. Close to a perfect story, it will, unfortunately, forever live in the shadow of its inspiration.

I certainly could hear the deus ex machina clanking in the background, but really enjoyed this book just the same. It is lively and fast moving. I listened to it (audible.com version) and it got hard to get out of the car at some points. Strongly recommended for long plane rides and beach reading -- not a deep book but a very entertaining one.
Read this book multiple times and really love it. This is one of my favourite books. It has everything and the twists are fantastic.
My favorite literary genre is definitely the legal thriller, and this one is by far the best I've ever read. I also googled the author, and found out this is a retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo, which means I'll be reading it soon! I definitely recommend it to people who like legal "boring" stuff, because it brings everything to such a closure..I mean, every single piece of the puzzle fits perfectly. Saying I loved it would be an understatement.
