Oh I loved this. And I really wasn’t expecting too. When I read Love & Other Disasters, I thought it was just okay. It dragged on for too long, and I was afraid Sing Anyway would suffer from the opposite problem since it’s so short. Yet it so few pages we get fully fleshed out characters, believable chemistry, great humor, and some lovely representation. Books like this remind me why I keep reading romance even though so many romance books are misses for me. This was a great surprise!

I’m actually really emotional about this book. I just feel so seen by the MC, Sam. So, Sam uses they/them pronouns and is somewhere in the nonbinary universe but doesn’t entirely feel like they have the language to describe their relationship to gender. The language they have access to as an adult is a lot more accurate than what they had when they were younger but it is still inadequate. I have no idea how this author created a character who *is* me without ever having known me but…they did. This is largely how I also feel about my gender, I typically say I’m nonbinary because it is a lot easier than saying all of that lol. But, as an Enby, at the place that I am at with my gender journey, I felt really seen by the way that Sam’s struggle with gender was handled. I also noticed a lot of other similarities and it felt amazing to see myself represented in a character in this way. Omg, is this how gender normal people feel about characters when they read books? Shit.
