OMG: this book was SO good!! I love when a book is hyped up & it meets ALL of my expectations. Honestly, it snuck up on me though. I felt like a big chunk of this book was training & getting ready for this big thing that was about to happen but not a lot of action. But then I got towards the end...

First of all, I am a fast reader but I always read fantasy books slower than a typical romance/thriller/etc book because we are taking in a lot more information usually. I picked this up two nights ago & read for an hour & realized I was already 100 pages in. Which, with annotating & all that, is unheard of for me & fantasy. Ended up binging this yesterday & finished. Couldn't put it down - a very quick & easy read.

Sometimes I can get caught up on world building but honestly this was super easy to understand & to the point. When I first started this book & we were reading about a thief from the slums, I was curious if this was going to be like Quicksilver or Powerless because the storylines seemed similar. Which is fine because I loved those books so that's definitely a plot I can get behind - an FMC who gets herself in a pickle right from the start, ha! & then the training scenes were giving Fourth Wing vibes.

But no, this book was definitely unique in the way that there were similar plot lines but the author made it her own. I loved the way she set the scene of the hidden kingdom - I could envision it in my head while I was reading & it was magical. & she gave us ALL the tension with Dacre & Nyra - this was true enemies to lovers. She knew he was the enemy & he knew he couldn't trust her & yet they were still drawn to each other & I was really rooting for them.

Now I don't know how to feel because I love Dacre but that ending - I was NOT. OKAY. Thank GOD I read the book a couple days before release day. I finished & IMMEDIATELY went on Amazon to order book 2 so that I can see what happens. Will definitely be reading more of Holly's books. LOVED!!

The first 2/3 read kind of blah to me personally but it was still worth the read! The smut was smutten and the flow of the relationship was intriguing. Definitely will be trying to read book 2, that ending had me stressed

I loved this book so much. I actually really enjoyed the characters is in this book. Nyra is so amazing. She is such a badass. What Dacre did at the end was low key kind of messed up, but I am sure he will redeem himself. The spice was top tier. Overall 4 stars

Not the most sophisticated read, but the romance and smut was really fun and it was a good basic book. It has some basic stereotypical plot parts, but I feel like it was done pretty good. Genuinely surprised for how much I enjoyed this book because the plot is so basic, but in the best way.
