3.5 stars....maybe 3.75

last chapter pissed me AWWFFFFFFFF omg

I have many thoughts about this book. the tropes and storyline aren't really anything new (cough cough red queen....powerless) and I wish there was more world building in regards to the different magic types but I still found it enjoyable

side note ..... for a virgin Nyra freaky af and sure catches on quickly LMAO

Boring, didn't care about plot or characters and felt like it was trying to rip off more popular books

Recently saw someone say that they don’t trust book reviews that point out plotholes in books and don’t just read “for the vibes.” Suuuuuperrrr fair point, right?

So as far as vibes go, it’s a “fantasy” book that has zero world building but it’s just a build up for the two main characters to get together. I obviously vibed enough to read it in a few hours… but it depends on what you’re looking for! Read this if you want a handful of cheeky lines and want a quick read but do not put your thinking cap on! Also, the relationship is pretty insane so if that’s your thing then def read it.

I will be reading the second book so maybe I could give it 3 stars for that alone… but 2 is more accurate

For the first time in my reading career, I’ve decided to listen to an audiobook of a romantasy, – and I didn’t know it was spicy. The way I was FLABBERGASTED when the narrators started explicitly describing what the characters were doing, GIRL, I was literally not prepared for any of this. Side note: mmc was voiced like a caveman, which honestly made the story much funnier.
And regarding the book itself:
First of all, this girl is the definition of the meme “don’t choke me in a fight, I might c*m”. Way too horny for the situation she finds herself in.
Second, I didn’t like the mmc at all, because he is
literally a murderer
and we have standards in this household.
As soon as the blood of a killed recruit splattered on her face, that was it, any romantic tension should have been killed as well.
Louder for the back: GIRL, don’t f*ck
murderers who constantly abuse and insult you
, for gods sake. The Mfc even summarised the mmc’s behaviour herself:
“You’r always in a bad mood”.
Both characters lake likability, though.

And the plot is almost nonexistent,
we see mmc on the streets once, and then the rest of the story takes place in the same dungeon with the same characters, with minor exceptions
. It’s really about the spice, not about actual plot.
Also, at least the first half of the book undeniably resembles Divergent, i mean,
a not like other girls girl leaves oppressive society to join a rebellion and starts a relationship with a high ranking guy that physically trained her to be a fighter in hidden headquarters of the rebellion?
it literally feels like a medieval divergent fanfiction with fairies
Definitely not going to read the next book in the series, but if there’s an audio version of it, I might listen to it while doing chores
