From the first moment, this book grabbed me, the fantasy of a rebellion and a lost princess. I liked that it is a quick read, you can finish it in a few hours while getting lost in this fantasy world. The magic system is simple, although I would like to see more of how it all works, I hope we see more in the second book. The ending OMG!!! It left me wanting even more of these characters, Dacre I love his attitude that Nyra doesn't care about him when in reality he's dying for her.
Nyra's determination to survive and continue to discover herself as the story progresses. I love how she challenges Dacre every chance she gets, as he calls her "Little Traitor," that dirty mouth of Dacre's, I love every challenge that makes their chemistry unique. He dies off jealousy every time someone gets close to her, especially when someone hurts her, even though he doesn't want to think about her because she is the enemy, the battle against not feeling anything for her is losing her. This story was perfect and introductory for this new fantasy world, with good characters and good world-building, overall I liked the story and can't wait for the second part of this new adventure.

Are you kidding me with the cliff hanger!
Really enjoyed this, but I feel like I want more detail as to why the plot is what it is.

Quotes:
“I have been starved, Nyra. Until you..”
“You think that anyone could get away with hurting you and that it wouldn’t matter?”
“She hated me as much as I hated her.”
“I wanted to beg him to stop, to choose me in a way that no one ever had before. In a way that I would have chosen him.”
“Dacre’s gaze grew colder, as if a dark storm cloud had passed over him, and I knew that I was playing with fire, but I couldn’t help myself.”

-LOTS of sexy Banter
-Dual POV
This book gave me Assassin's Blade and Red Queen vibes, and I LOVED IT SO MUCH.
The story follows Nyra, an on-the-run princess escaping her cruel father, the King. After fleeing his abuse for not having any power, she’s living on the streets of his kingdom, hiding and waiting for the right moment to escape to another land. But when a pickpocketing attempt goes wrong, she’s captured by royal guards, only to be ‘rescued’ by rebels—one of whom dislikes her because of her fake rebel branding. Now, she’s forced to become a rebel while hiding from the kingdom that’s searching for her, keeping her true identity a secret.
Darce, the son of the rebellion’s leader, doesn’t trust Nyra one bit—but he can’t get her out of his head or keep his hands to himself. His possessiveness over her starts from the very beginning. He knows she’s hiding something, but he can’t figure out what. The banter between these two characters, the tension, the spicy scenes, the jealousy, and the possessiveness? PERFECTION. Darce is confident, dominant, with a filthy HAWT mouth, and he’s perfect—especially for a naive princess who’s been hidden away most of her life.
I loved how the other characters got to know Nyra just a little bit and still loved her so deeply. And that last chapter? Holy moly.
This book was a light, fast-paced read for me, and I rated it four stars because I feel like it could have had a bit more depth. But honestly, it’s still such a GOOD book, and I can't wait for the second one!

Ugh, this book had so much potential, but fell short in every way except for the spicy scenes. Lol! The ideas and premise of the story were great, but there wasn’t enough detail and depth in the writing. I personally think the book could have been double the length. It was hard to form a connection to story line, even though the ideas were good.
There were some things that annoyed me, how mmc kept saying the fmc cousins be trusted, but then he would
Trust her with top secret into and missions that no one else knew. Or to mention he had only known her for what, a couple of weeks? If that. Everything was so rushed.
There were a lot of unanswered questions. Maybe we will find out in book two.
Why did mmc’s father forbid him from communicating with his mother?
Why did his grandma live outside the veiled city?
Why did nyra not have any powers?
Book would have gotten 2 stars if the spicy scenes weren’t so good. I will still read the next book.
