ᴛɪᴛʟᴇ :The Veiled Kingdom
ᴀᴜᴛʜᴏʀ : Holly Renee
ꜱᴇʀɪᴇꜱ : Book 1 of the The Veiled Kingdom series
Tropes:
⚬ Hidden Identity
⚬ Touch Her and Die
⚬ Secret City
⚬ Enemies to Lovers
⚬ Slow Burn
⚬ Possessive & Jealous MMC
⚬ Crawl to me
The Veiled Kingdom is about "The Lost Princess", who has been hidden away her whole life and during a raid escapes her farther and now lives on the streets. The Princess gets a taste of freedom until she is caught stealing, gets locked up in the castle dungeon only to be taken by the very rebellion who started the raid during her escape. Dacre is the son of their Rebel leader and he is torn between lust and loyalty. He is strongly suspicious of this Little Traitor, but his body is betraying his head.
Omg i LOVED this story, the tension between Dacre and Nyra just had me spinnnnnnnging! I listened to the Audiobook version of The Veiled Kingdom and that's it. I think I'm a fully converted Audiobook girly, cos WOAH i loved these voice actors! They really brought another level to the whole story! Epically Dacre... cough cough crawl to me cough cough.
I really liked how you went along the journey with Nyra and learned about the her kingdom with her. My heart went out to her with her past and i would LOVE to deep dive into that more!
The Audiobook was around 7 hours long so i managed to binge listen in one day and I'm such a big fan of shorted books/audios! I'm already onto book 2!
Love you Holly, I'm so excited to listen/read more of your books! I have them all downloaded ready to listen while on holiday! ❤️

This book is fast paced with minimal plot however I couldn’t get enough of it, the characters more than made up for it. The romance and spice I couldn’t put it down. I want more world building as I don’t know much about the rebellion or the war or the magic system,… but that ending!
3.5*
The last 1/4 of the book was stellar 4 maybe even 5 star material for me. The rest was a bit slow. I feel like I was just getting to see the reality of all the characters. I cannot wait to dive into book 2 and see what comes next.

This series started off fairly good but went downhill. I finished the first book quickly but found myself slogging through books 2&3.
In book 2 and especially in book 3, I just got bogged down by long descriptions of her magic and also the romance scenes. The convenience of the FMC suddenly getting new and powerful magic (that she just instinctively knows how to use) again and again and again got boring.

I absolutely loved this book I finished it in one day. Nyra and dacre are both loveable characters and the side characters were great too. This book does end on a cliffhanger. I read this on audiobook and e book. The audio book is well narrated I really loved the dual pov and the slow burn definitely was a SLOW burn. Five stars I can’t wait to read the next book.

what was going on with this book? i honestly should have dnf’d it but alas, here we are. i couldn’t tell you one redeeming thing about this. the writing was subpar. the plot was… lacking. in fact i am not clear what happened besides nyra randomly getting captured, trained, and then i guess getting found out?
dacre sucks. this was not enemies to lovers. he seems like a bully; i didn’t get any sort of redeeming quality from him and it just made me feel icky most of the time bc nyra didn’t seem to have standards or stick up for herself. FMC nyra was also so boring. no character development for either of them, really.
world building was zero — one if i’m being generous. i knew almost nothing about the rebellion (why exactly where they rebelling? what were they raiding for when everything went sideways? what has the kind done that’s so bad besides the brief mention of power tithes?) and would have had no idea these people were fae if it wasn’t randomly mentioned once in the book. also not a ton of explanation of where the powers came from etc.
wren was maybe the only semi-likable character?
i will say spice was good, so if you’re just reading for that — you’ll be please with the last 50 pages of the book. the ending was criminal imo. i don’t even know how one comes back from that.
don’t think i’ll be reading the others tbh

This book was so easy to read and so easy to keep my interest. I do have whiplash between loving and hating one of the characters at the same time.
The ending left me mad. Now I have to read the rest of the books in the series!!
