This should be everything that I love, but I’m not vibing with it. I simply do not care, unfortunately.
fast-paced

With its short and fast-paced storyline, The Veiled Kingdom is the perfect quick fantasy escape. If you love enemies-to-lovers tension, forbidden romance, and rich fantasy settings, this one’s for you.

Favorite phrases:

1. “Doesn’t matter.” He laughed, and the sound startled me. “You think that anyone could get away with hurting you and that it wouldn’t matter?”

2. “Tell me you’re mine.”

World building happened, chemistry between our enemies to lovers happened, but not a lot of plot happened. Besides a lot of insta-attraction, there’s not a lot going on besides talk of needing to find the lost princess, needing to take down the cruel king, and being sad about dead mothers.

I didn’t enjoy reading a woman somehow fall in love with a man that bullies and belittles her. DNFd after the first time they got intimate.. you know where Dacre was belligerently drunk, forced her alone from the group as part of an agreement for him to stop drinking, then as she is trying to get away from him he holds her behind and touches her??? But don’t worry, she’s sort of into it, but only in her head and the book is explicit in saying she hated herself for it.
