I really like the concept here of princess runs away from her father who is totally disappointed in her. And falls in love with the rebel leaders son. But I just had a hard time connecting with the characters and I felt like the plot took a back seat for most of the book to lust.

4.5⭐️ thank you Holly Renee and Valentine pr for the eARC of this book! This was such a great start to this series, and I am super excited for the others to come out! I loved the length of this book. Also the spice was spicing for sure. If you are looking for a romantasy with simple world building, action and spice, I would look no further than Holly Renee!

Ugh. I wish we got a little more romance building between the FMC and MMC. The scenes between them were hot, but it was sorta insta-lust. Forced proximity, one-bed but so much “getting to know each other” was lost in between.

Hot take here (maybe) but that last chapter was WILD. I thought it was well done, I cringed so hard for Nyrah/Verena and was shocked and hurt for her but the execution was well done! I wouldn’t say it’s a full on bully romance but Dacre (MMC) had his moments - so I thought it fit him perfectly. Plus I think he did it to protect her. Idk.

“I have been starved, Nyra. Until you.”

The Veiled Kingdom follows Nyra, the lost princess of the Marmoris Kingdom, and Dacre, the rebel leader's son. Nyra was thought to be powerless so her father, the king, held her prisoner in the palace. When the palace was raided, she saw that as an opportunity and escaped the palace. Nyra had been living in the slums for some time until she was caught for stealing. Dacre was on a mission to rescue his sister, who had been captured by the king's guards, when he saw Nyra in the dungeons. Dacre's sister did not want to leave her behind as she thought Nyra was a part of the rebellion. Dacre noticed the rebellion tattoo was a fake and labeled her as a traitor. They end up dragging her down to where the rebellion is stationed. Nyra must do everything possible to hide her true identity and chose between joining them or being killed. Dacre doesn't trust Nyra at all and will do anything to uncover her secrets.

The Veiled Kingdom is the first book I've read from Holly Renee. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the banter between Nyra and Dacre. The spice in this book
