So like… I don’t know how I feel about this one.
In my opinion, there needs to be more character development… I don’t even know what Nyra and Dacre really look like, except the color of their eyes. I’m not sure who is Fae or not either.
The plot got better towards the middle/end of the book, but most of the book was Dacre fucking Nyra or Dacre degrading Nyra during their training sessions - which, by the way, did not have to take up 100 pages. I got bored reading about it.
Also - the ending? WTF did I just read? And why did it end like that?
I think 2 stars is being a bit generous. I might change it to 1 star. I haven’t decided yet.

I don't usually write reviews so here's my issues in bullet points
-very little to zero world building
-like 90% of the characters are very black and white and have zero depth. Lame motivations.
-zero chemistry between the main characters. They are so hateful towards each other and then they are just horny towards each other. There is zero love.
-they are supposed to be fae but there's nothing fae-like except one girl had wings.
-there's very little descriptions of any of the characters? Ok we have the hair and eye color of the main peeps but no one else. Unless it was so blink and you miss it. Also, I don't know how old any of these characters are?
-the power thing is not explained at all. Okay, everyone has a power but some have additional powers? And it doesn't say what these powers are except for healers and one girl said she had earth powers. What does that mean?? Very vague.
-the writing itself isn't bad? but the story itself is lacking.
It's a quick read and I'm halfway through the second one, but I think for respect to myself I'm not going to finish it.

The vibes were immaculate.
Was this groundbreaking? No. But it was cute, and there wasn’t too much going to hate either.
I enjoyed the ending added a new layer to the original face value of the story, and definitely added to the overall plot and series.
I do usually despise the trope of keeping secrets etc as I find it lazy writing to build tension, but I actually enjoyed it in this setting.
The romance in this was good in my opinion. I wasn’t sure at the start when it hinted at enemies to lovers from the FMC hatred but pasted soon enough to not become part of the story.

The princess and the rebel
Nyra has been on the run since the rebels raided the palace, escaping her father’s brutality for the one thing she cannot help, her lack of magic.
Dacre is the son of the leader of the rebellion. He will take the helm one day and gods willing their success, become the new King.
When Nyra is caught stealing, she is thrown in dungeons beneath the palace. Lucky for her, she is in the same cell as Wren, Dacer’s sister. Unlucky for her, she is now knee deep in a rebellion she wants no part of and drawn to the one man who would end her in a second if he found out who she really was.
There is definitely some enemies to undeniable attraction going on in this story and though it didn’t pick up until more than half way through, I really enjoyed it. Nyra is feisty, and though she is keeping too many secrets to count, she is only trying her best to survive. I love how she dishes as best as she takes it and never wavers.
Dacre has a mouth on him and I love it! He may not trust Nyra as far as he can throw her, but he is unabashed about what he wants and HOW he wants it.
With the latter half of the book picking up and starting to get into the action, I am excited to jump into the next one!

When I say that this book is fast-paced I mean it feels like it’s maybe a 100 page book tops, no slow burn to be seen, no suspense, just go go go go. I read it in one sitting at the beach today and felt like I truly zoomed through it
This is set in such an interesting world (though I’m still not sure as to what exactly the magic system is?? What are the powers??) and the characters are fun albeit a little bit 2D at times and not just because they’re words on paper. Hoping that the sequel explores more of an actual relationship between Nyra and Dacre because it felt super vapid to me… like what is it that draws Dacre to her? Why should I root for them?? I don’t really know right now but I can see it going somewhere really great, we’ll see! Really I just wanted to see everything be just a little bit more than it was. Like yay for it being quick but where is everything
I do, however, know that I’m invested even though I had some things that I didn’t vibe with in this book and that I will be picking up the sequel (and will likely devour it in one sitting too)
3.5/5 rounded down because I just have too many questions and concerns to do otherwise
