This was honestly one of my favorite books ever. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style and I loved all the characters so much
(except Rasheed)
It was so heartbreaking as well, I am someone who has never cried from a book, and there were a few instances where my eyes started watering. There are a couple mature topics but I definitely recommend this book.

This novel is not for the faint of heart.  It is painful and tragic.  There is repeatedly domestic violence, which is very intense and vivid.  There is general misogyny, hatred of women if they are unable to conceive, or if they give birth to girls.  There is graphic, war-related violence.  And that does not cover all the potential triggers that occur in the book.  Good writing, well-crafted story, important historical depiction, but it is not an easy read for the sensitive.

A touching, haunting, emotional read. Khaled Hosseini is a brilliant writer and I've learned so much about modern Afghan history from The Kite Runner and this book. Although A Thousand Splendid Suns is well-written and tells an important story, I didn't enjoy it quite as much as TKR, partly because I found the character arcs in TKR more compelling, and also because some of the descriptions of domestic violence in ATSS felt a touch gratuitous. That being said, I loved Mariam and Laila's characters and how their relationship evolved. They feel so real - my heart broke for them throughout the whole book.
